Instructions for Removing Secondary Air Pump

For cold starting a petrol engine, a 'rich' mixture is necessary, meaning a mixture with an excess of fuel. Since the catalyst has not yet reached its operating temperature during this state of operation, a significant amount of carbon monoxide and unburned hydrocarbons is formed in the interval between cold starting and the lambda adjustment intervention. By injecting ambient air rich in oxygen into the exhaust manifold ('secondary air'), a post-oxidation ('post-combustion') of harmful substances occurs at that point. In the car model presented in the video, the secondary air pump is located at the front of the engine and is secured with an aluminium collar: therefore, unscrew the mounting bolts, disconnect the connector and the hose to complete the removal.
