Replacing Front Shock Absorber Mounts

Model: Mercedes Sl MK 5, R129 - Years 1989-2001

If you hear a squeaking noise coming from the engine bay, especially while driving on rough terrain, the front shock absorber mounts may have failed. In this case, replacement does not require complete disassembly of the shock absorbers. Start by removing the support bracket on the shock towers, then the mounting nuts on the towers themselves. Next, lift the vehicle with a jack until the wheel is off the ground and press down on the shock absorber shaft to lower it enough to remove the old mount and insert the new one. Finally, tighten the mounting nuts and reinstall the bracket.
