In this video, see how to open the hood of a Mercedes S-Class that has been in an accident, resulting in a broken cable that prevents the hood from opening. The hood lifts slightly on one side, but on the side that was impacted, it does not move.

You will need a hook with a long enough handle to reach as far inside as possible; use this to access the front area to try to reach the cable and then pull it towards you. At that point, grab the handle that comes out from the grille and pull up the entire cover to access the engine compartment.
