How to Replace the Timing Chain on a Mini Cooper S

To replace the timing chain on a Mini Cooper S, open the bonnet to access the engine bay and remove the plastic cover from the top of the engine. Once the cover is off, loosen the bolts securing the cylinder head and those fixing the side cover. This will allow access to the sprockets; specifically, you need to loosen the central bolt of the chain tensioner. By doing this, you can reduce the tension on the chain and replace it with a new one, reinstalling all previously removed components.
