Removing and Replacing the PCV Valve

The PCV valve (Positive Crankcase Ventilation) is one of the first attempts to reduce unburned hydrocarbon emissions: it allows some exhaust gases to be sent into the intake manifold to re-enter the combustion chamber as part of a fresh charge of air and fuel; this also results in a depressurisation of the crankcase, improving lubrication.
Open the front bonnet and locate the PCV valve: it is situated at the rear right (when facing the engine) and resembles a bulb. Disconnect the securing clip of the attached hose and slide the hose off. Then remove the valve with a 19 mm spanner and replace it with the new one, tightening it adequately; finally, reinsert the hose and its securing clip.
