The 1.0 petrol engine of the Nissan Micra K12 has a timing chain, which may stretch and become noisy; replacing the chain requires some skill, especially as the best solution is to detach the engine and work on a bench. Before removing the chain, it is essential to align the timing marks, then remove the chain tensioner, the guide rail, and the two camshaft pulleys: comparing the old chain with the new one will reveal the stretching. Once the new chain is installed, also replace the guide rail and tensioner, then turn the crankshaft a few times to ensure everything is aligned; also replace the oil seals of the cover.
