How to Resolve Code 89 on Vauxhall/Opel (Replacing the Coolant Heater Thermostat)

Code 89 on the Opel/Vauxhall display often indicates a problem with the coolant thermostat, not necessarily the oil. Diagnosis with an OBD tool confirmed code P0599 (high voltage heater thermostat). The solution is to replace the thermostat, located under the airbox. To access it, remove the intake duct and the turbo pipe. Disconnect the electrical connectors and the coolant hoses. The thermostat is secured with three bolts (8 mm spanner). Remove it and install the new one, ensuring the rubber gasket is properly positioned. Tighten the bolts and reconnect the hoses. Top up the coolant and start the engine to check for leaks. Clear the error code with the OBD scanner and test the operation. Code 89 is resolved.
