How to Replace the Timing Belt on an Opel Meriva

In this video, you will learn how to replace the timing belt on an Opel Meriva 1.6 77 kW. As in all videos in this series, you will see how to change the belt. We can provide an indication of the cost of the replacement part (a Continental CR1077 WP2 available on eBay for £139.70: the price includes the belt, tensioner, and water pump), but we cannot show you how to disassemble it as the video demonstrates the procedure on a sample engine. However, it is useful as it clearly shows how to operate. Bring the engine to top dead centre; the two marks must align, as should those on the camshaft. Now you can remove the pulley and the lower timing belt: the mark on the timing wheel must align with the triangle to confirm the timing is correct. Lock the camshafts with the appropriate tools, and the timing wheel in the gearbox, inserting it under the oil filter. Now you can loosen the timing belt by inserting a 6mm Allen key into the tensioner roller and turning it clockwise until you can insert the retaining pin into the tensioner roller. Remove the belt. Now reassemble everything starting with the tensioner. First, clean the threads in the engine block, then fit the belt, starting from the crankshaft timing wheel, working counter-clockwise; the tensioner will be last. There are two variants of this process, which our YouTuber illustrates in detail. Now the locking tools must be removed, the belt must be turned twice, and the timing must be checked.
