The Eco mode that prevents the Peugeot 206 from starting has become a legendary problem. It is caused by a design flaw in the electrical system. The eco mode was created to prevent the battery from discharging: the car detects when the battery voltage is too low and disables all non-essential loads (radio, interior lights, air conditioning, central locking) to preserve energy for starting the engine. The issue is that this mode can activate even with a fully charged battery, immobilising the car. The problem lies with the BSI being overly sensitive to voltage fluctuations, so trivial actions like starting the engine (which causes a physiological drop in voltage) trigger the eco mode, blocking the vehicle. Heat exacerbates the problem, which is particularly felt in hot countries (especially Latin America).
