What to do if the cup holder of the Porsche 911/Cayman/Boxster makes noise inside the cabin.

The most common cause of the rattling of the cup holder in Porsche vehicles like the 911, Cayman, and Boxster is the breakage of the plastic pin that connects the closing lever of the spring. Without tension, the lever and its housing rattle freely, creating the annoying noise. Let's see how to fix it: open the glove compartment, unscrew the two 4 mm hex screws that secure the cup holder, and pull it out of its housing. Unscrew the screws on the top cover of the cup holder and remove the arm to check if the plastic pin that connects to the spring is broken. If it is, that is the cause of the noise. We can repair it with metal wire by creating a hook at one end: insert it into the original hole of the arm, position it in its housing with the cup holder open, hook the other end of the wire to the original spring mechanism to create tension, and wrap the wire around itself several times to secure it firmly, ensuring there is tension when the cup holder is closed. If extra damping is desired, apply small pieces of felt tape at the contact points to dampen vibrations. Reassemble the arm and cover, and put the cup holder back into the dashboard by screwing in the two 4 mm screws.
