On the Renault Scenic 2, as on many other vehicles, there are several engine mounts that fix the engine to the car's chassis, keeping it in a stable position. They also serve to reduce vibrations and noises produced by the engine, improving driving comfort. The Scenic, like many modern cars, can have front, rear, and side mounts, usually made of rubber and metal. Over time and use, engine mounts can deteriorate, causing excessive engine vibrations felt inside the cabin, or metallic noises coming from the engine compartment, especially during acceleration or when turning. In some cases, abnormal engine movements and premature wear of mechanical components may occur.
