Removing the Timing Belt

Model: Renault Scenic MK 2, Scenic 2 - Years 2003-2009

It is advisable to perform this repair with the engine cold. First, remove all plastic covers to access the timing belt area; then rotate the crankshaft pulley to align the timing marks: at this point, insert the locking pins into the pulleys to maintain this position during disassembly and installation. Next, loosen the tensioner and remove the toothed belt. Given the complexity of the task, it is recommended to replace not only the belt but also the tensioner, bearing, and water pump even if there are no leaks: this is a precautionary replacement that is always worth doing due to the low cost of the parts.
