Operation: Replacement of the head of the steering rods

To replace the head of the steering rods, the car is raised and placed on stands. The wheel is removed, after locking the steering in order to have the wheels parallel to the longitudinal dimension of the car. The self-locking nut that joins the head to the wheel hub comes alive. The head is then extracted either with a ball joint separator or, even if it is more tiring, by hitting the end of the screw with a hammer. The distance from the internal end of the head to the end of the adjustment thread on the tie rod is then measured. The position of the head to be replaced is then marked with a felt-tip pen and at this point it can be unscrewed and replaced. The new head is screwed up to the mark and measured again. The new head is adjusted so as to have the same measurement obtained with the replaced one so as not to compromise the correct convergence, and blocks with the lock nut. Before finally reassembling the parts, it is useful to grease all the threads. The disassembled parts can now be reassembled.
