Replacement of Timing Belt
Model: Renault Clio
MK 2, Clio 2
- Years 1998-2005
Replacing the timing belt is not typically a DIY maintenance task, but if you have good general mechanical knowledge, you can attempt it. It is recommended from the outset not to lose the timing references. Start by lifting the vehicle to remove the front right wheel and its wheel arch liner. Remove the protective grille under the radiator and disconnect the hose to drain the coolant. Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery, remove the lower engine mount, and place a jack under the engine to support it while removing the side engine mount and the plastic cover of the timing belt. Rotate the crankshaft pulley to align the timing marks, loosen the tensioner, and remove the toothed belt. Next, proceed to remove the tensioner and water pump, then reinsert the toothed belt, ensuring the timing marks are maintained. Reassemble everything and refill the cooling system with antifreeze before starting the engine.
