Steering Wheel and CIM Module Disassembly Instructions

Model: Saab 9 3 MK 2 - Years 2002-2014
Part: Steering wheel

The first operation is to adjust the steering wheel fully down and out to facilitate disassembly. Then, disconnect the airbag container: behind the spokes, there are slots where you can insert a small flat screwdriver to lever and release the fastening springs; then disconnect the connectors. Next, unscrew the fastening pin of the steering wheel and remove it. The CIM module (Console Integrated Module) is secured to the steering column with two plastic tabs, one upper and one lower: simply lever them off to release and extract the module while disconnecting the respective connectors. If you wish to remove the control levers as well, these are also clipped in and you just need to widen the fastening tab to remove them.

How to Replace the Drive Belt

Disconnect and lift the bonnet, then disconnect the battery cables. The drive belt will likely be located on one of the two shorter sides of the engine, so if you do not have space to access the belt, you will need to remove any obstructing parts. Remove the tension on the belt by rotating the tensioner and then take off the belt. Check the condition of the belt, and before installing a new one, ensure it is the same as the one you just removed. Once the belt is removed, you can check the remaining pulleys and retrace the steps for reassembly.
