How to Remove the Alternator from a Skoda Yeti

This operation requires good manual skills, as the alternator is mounted in a tight position under other components, which poses a risk of damaging parts. Before proceeding, disconnect the negative terminal of the battery. It is also necessary to have the workshop manual for your specific model/year/engine. Then disconnect the battery, lift the car, remove the engine cover, and locate the alternator, which on 1.2/1.4 TSI or 1.6/2.0 TDI engines is found low on the right side of the engine when viewed from the bonnet, near the gearbox. Drain the coolant, disconnect the hoses and connectors, and remove the auxiliary belt. Disconnect the electrical cables from the alternator (the thick cable connected to the battery and the clip connector for the voltage regulator). Unscrew the supports, noting the position of any spacers and bushes, and extract the alternator. Insert the new part without tightening the fixing bolts, reconnect the electrical cables (first the clip connector, then the thick cable), refit the auxiliary belt, reassemble all removed components, top up the coolant, and refit the engine cover. You can then reconnect the battery and check that the engine starts correctly.
