Let’s look at the most common and clean solution to permanently disable the start & stop system on a Smart 453, using a "bypass". This is a reversible, non-invasive, and economical method. It is a small electronic adapter that connects between the start & stop button and its socket: it sends a signal to the control unit that simulates a "non-eligible condition" for engine shutdown, tricking the system into staying off. You can purchase it on AliExpress with code 1005005171072591 for £29.79, with free delivery in 7 days. For installation, remove the button cover using a plastic tool to access the button connectors. The start & stop connector may be green or grey. Look for the release lever on the connector, press it inwards, and disconnect it. First, connect the bypass device plug to the car's cable, then connect the original button connector to the bypass device. Refit the cover, placing any excess cable in the empty space under the dashboard.
