How to replace the thermostat of a Smart ForTwo

Model: Smart Smart 450 - Years 1998-2007
Part: Thermostat

Before starting, we will have to open the tailgate of the rear trunk of our Smart ForTwo, to then disengage and remove the engine cover. So let's start by emptying the cooling system circuit, unscrewing the relative drain screw. Next, we will have to disassemble and remove the alternator, unscrewing the fixing bolts, and then extract it from its housing. By doing so, we will have reached the thermostat cover. We then proceed by unscrewing and removing the fixing bolts, and then disconnecting the various sleeves and the electrical connector. At this point, we will have to extract the thermostat from the engine compartment, and we will have finished the disassembly. To mount the new thermostat on our Smart ForTwo, we will have to follow these steps in reverse, and the replacement will be finished.
