Part: Checks and maintenance

Video tutorial

On the Toyota Yaris Cross HEV, the traction battery filter is located in the left rear footwell, behind the air intake grille. To access it, move the passenger seat forward and remove the grille with a flat-head screwdriver, prying on the two tabs.

Pull out the filter and clean it with a brush or a vacuum cleaner with plastic brushes. Do not use water or liquids: they could damage the battery or cause fires.

If the filter is very dirty or damaged, replace it. The Toyota manual indicates replacement every 18,600 miles or 2 years and cleaning of the air intake every 28,000 miles. A clogged filter causes the battery to overheat and reduces the use of electric mode.

After reassembly, start the hybrid system and ensure that the message "Maintenance required for traction battery cooling parts" no longer appears. In the case of replacement, it can be found on E-Bay under code 127167873636 for £22.15, with free delivery.

To reset the light, turn on the ignition and press the RESET button located under the dashboard on the driver's side. While holding the button down, you can access the reset function and wait a few seconds before releasing the button. Once the ignition is restarted, the light will turn off.
