Replacing the shell and battery of a car remote, specifically for a Toyota Prius, is a very simple procedure. Purchase a new remote from a trusted dealer as the first step, then replace the internal microchip and battery with the original ones. Remove the original microchip from the old remote by first extracting the metal key and then unscrewing the internal screws. Once the screws are removed, open the interior and take out the battery and microchip. Take the new remote and, using a screwdriver, open it and insert the original microchip followed by the new battery, then close it all up and insert the metal key.
