What does the TPMS light indicate?

The TPMS system allows you to monitor tire pressure while driving and alert the driver if the pressure is outside the normal range. There are two types of TPMS systems: indirect and direct. The indirect system measures the wheel's rotation speed and distance traveled with each rotation. For example, a deflated tire has a smaller diameter and therefore rotates more. It is the ABS system's task to inform the driver that the tire needs to be replaced by turning on a warning light. The direct system works with wireless sensors on the wheel. It is the sensors' job to send a coded message to the instrument panel. Usually, TPMS sensors are provided with the vehicle, but they can also be added later by purchasing a set for around 70 and installing them inside the tire. The sensors also provide data on the vehicle's performance based on tire pressure, preventing tire wear and accidents. The TPMS warning light turns on when the tire pressure is outside the vehicle's specified parameters or in case of a flat tire. To reset the warning light, some vehicles require using the onboard computer and selecting the "TYRE RESET" option, while in others the reset happens automatically when the vehicle is turned on. When the warning light comes on, it is advisable to stop the vehicle and check the tire condition using a pressure gauge or visiting the nearest repair shop.
