How does the EGR valve work?

In this video, we are briefly explained how the EGR valve works: the part that controls the flow of exhaust gases is the actuator, which in this case is pneumatic and is activated by a depression created in the intake manifold, moving a diaphragm, which in turn opens or closes the valve. However, it can also be electric, controlled by the engine's electronic control unit, which opens and closes the valve based on operating conditions. In this case, the diaphragm moves when it receives the signal, causing the opening or closing of a throttle inside the EGR valve. This throttle regulates the amount of exhaust gas that is reintroduced into the combustion cycle.
