Reasons Why Reversing Lights May Not Work

This video presents various vehicles to overview the reasons why the reversing light may not work: the first and most obvious reason is a blown bulb; remove the rear light and check the filament of the bulb. The second reason could be a faulty reversing switch, usually located on the gearbox: in this case, no light will illuminate, even if the bulbs are intact. You can test by putting the vehicle in reverse and checking with a tester if voltage reaches the connectors of the lights. Another reason could be a blown fuse or relay: locate the dedicated fuse and check its functionality. For cars with an automatic gearbox, the problem could also be a faulty selector: damaged wiring creates the issue, which can be identified with an OBD2 scanner (code P0705). Lastly, it could be damaged wiring, especially between the body and the tailgate: you will need to trace the cable path with a tester to find interruptions or short circuits.

How to Open the Bonnet on the Lancia Y
