If the MAP sensor is not functioning, the ECU does not know how much air is entering the engine and miscalculates the air/fuel mixture. Here are the most common symptoms: the engine warning light illuminates, indicating that the ECU has detected an abnormal value from the sensor; poor performance and hesitation. The car loses power, especially during acceleration; high fuel consumption. Not knowing the amount of air, the ECU injects more fuel than necessary for safety, causing excessive consumption; reduced efficiency. The car struggles to accelerate and feels sluggish; irregular deceleration. The engine vibrates, has an unstable idle, and tends to stall when stationary at traffic lights; difficulty starting, especially when the engine is warm.
