How to Start Your Car with a Booster

If your car battery is flat and won't start, a portable booster (jump starter) is the quickest solution. Connect the red cable to the positive terminal of the battery and the black cable to the negative terminal (or to a metal ground on the chassis). Turn on the booster and wait a few seconds. Try to start the engine. If it starts, leave the engine running for a few minutes to recharge the battery. Then disconnect the black cable and finally the red one. The booster is a very handy device, especially if the battery shows no signs of failure until the moment it dies. Remember that if the battery is very old (over 5 years), it may need replacing.
