The engine oil pressure sensor is an extremely important component, indicating whether the engine oil has the correct pressure within the circuit. The correct oil pressure ensures lubrication between parts, creating a layer of oil that acts as a cushion, reducing friction between metal components and preventing wear, scraping, or fraying.

An incorrect oil pressure level (measured in bar and specified by the manufacturer) is indicated by the illumination of the red warning light with the oil droplet symbol; when this light comes on, it is essential to switch off the vehicle. Possible causes include a malfunctioning oil pressure sensor that no longer detects the correct pressure levels or a failure of another component in the engine oil circuit, such as the pump, which is responsible for circulating the oil at the correct pressure levels.
