Is it possible to mix different coloured coolant liquids?

The liquid we put in the radiator lowers the freezing point, prevents rust formation, and raises the boiling point; it is made up of demineralised water, glycol, and organic or inorganic additives, and comes in various colours, each with different characteristics. The classic one is blue, an older formulation suitable for older cars and considered quite polluting due to inorganic additives like phosphate salts and nitrites. Purple is particularly used by the V.A.G group and is composed of glycol and glycerin + inorganic additives (and demineralised water, of course). Green is used by the Renault group, yellow is made from a mix of organic and inorganic additives. Red is the most common and consists of organic additives. Therefore, generally, it is not advisable to mix coolant colours, especially blue, unless it is an emergency. However, it must then be completely replaced. It should be fully replaced every 4 years. Consumption should not exceed half a litre per year.
