How to Replace the Cigarette Lighter with a Dual USB Socket

For non-smokers, the cigarette lighter is a useless accessory. A USB socket is much more useful. Here’s how to install it easily. You can find the dual QC3.0 socket with voltmeter shown in the video on Amazon for £15.99, with LEDs in various colours, complete with all installation cables. Free delivery. First, remove the gear knob, then the top part of the console to expose the screws, which you will remove with a Torx key. You will need to take out the centre tunnel. Now remove the 4 screws holding the tray around the cigarette lighter. Disconnect the rear connector of the cigarette lighter and remove the piece from the tray by unclipping it with a screwdriver. Now install the USB socket, securing it with its standard washer. Take the power from the black (negative) and grey (positive) wires, isolating the yellow. Cut the connectors off the USB socket cables and strip the wires, then connect male spade connectors to the female spade connectors of the 12-volt socket, black to black and grey to red. Cover them with some insulating tape. Before reassembling, test it, of course. Then reassemble everything in reverse order.
