In this video, learn how to check the engine oil level. It is advisable to do this about once a month to monitor for any leaks.

Perform this check with the car cold, so that all the oil is in the sump. Most cars have a physical dipstick; only a select few have an electronic dipstick.

Once you locate the dipstick, pull it out and clean it with a piece of paper. Reinsert the dipstick into its tube, then remove it again to check the oil level.

The dipstick will always have indicators for "min" and "max". The correct level should be near "max", never above it. If oil is low, replace the dipstick, open the oil filler cap, and use a funnel to top up the oil, adding a little at a time. Measure the level again, replace the dipstick until it clicks into place, and the job is done.
