In this video, we see how to clean the water tank - radiator expansion tank - even on a very old car. What you'll need is coarse salt, white vinegar, and a neutral degreaser. Let's start by removing the tank from its housing, unscrewing the clamps that hold the pipes carrying the liquid in place. Remove it and remember that it will definitely leak some liquid. Now, let's make temporary plugs in the points where the pipes were attached, fill the tank with coarse salt and white vinegar, and shake it repeatedly to remove the larger dirt particles. Now it's time for the degreaser, always mixed with coarse salt. Shake it well again, unplug the holes we had previously plugged, and then rinse it thoroughly. We can put it back in place by reattaching the clamps. We can't say it's as good as new, but at least we'll be able to see the liquid level.
