In this video, learn how to clean the water tank - radiator expansion tank - even on a very old car. You will need coarse salt, white vinegar, and a neutral degreaser. Start by removing the tank from its housing by unscrewing the clamps that hold the pipes carrying the fluid. Take it out, and remember that it will likely leak some fluid. Now, make temporary plugs at the points where the pipes were attached, fill the tank with coarse salt and white vinegar, and shake repeatedly to remove the larger dirt. Next, add the degreaser, again mixed with coarse salt. Shake it well, remove the plugs you made earlier, and then rinse thoroughly. You can put it back in place by reattaching the clamps. It may not look brand new, but at least you will see the fluid level.
