In this video, you can see a complete guide to using an additive that is not well-liked by motorists: AdBlue. It has a dedicated tank and does not come into contact with the engine; it is injected into the exhaust system and reduces NOX emissions through a chemical reaction that is completely harmless to the engine.

It can be purchased from spare parts shops and petrol stations, and of course online, but it is a liquid that can be easily counterfeited.

If you buy a poor quality version, you risk damaging the system. It can be stored, provided it is done correctly.

Do not leave it until the last moment to top up, as the vehicle may not start again. However, do not fill it to the brim; you can mix different brands together, and it is not dangerous to handle.

Use a funnel dedicated solely for this purpose when topping up. It does not require much maintenance, but if the system fails, the car goes into recovery mode. On the other hand, the system must consume the additive; otherwise, something is wrong (about one litre every 1,000 miles).

Removing this system is illegal, with hefty fines and withdrawal of the registration document. Repairing the system can be very expensive, but sometimes it may be sufficient to wash it with hot water if the additive crystallises in the tank, and it is not necessary to replace it.
