How to replace the battery in the key fob of a Volkswagen Passat? Take your key fob and slide the button to release the metal key. Once extracted, use a screwdriver to pry open the key cover until the two pieces separate. Remove the battery holder, replace the worn battery with a new one of the same size and voltage. Reassemble the cover with the buttons by pressing the key fob until you hear it click into place. Finally, insert the metal key back into the fob. Check that the key fob functions correctly.
