How to Replace the Timing Belt on a Volkswagen Passat

Model: Volkswagen Passat 3BG, B5 - Years 1996-2005

To replace the timing belt on a Volkswagen Passat, open the bonnet and lift it, securing it with the prop rod. Remove the front bumper along with the respective fans and headlights, disconnect the power wiring using pliers, and unscrew the plastic soundproofing panel with a screwdriver. Lift the car with a column lift to access the underside if necessary. Use a spanner to loosen the tensioner pulley and slide the belt off its seat. Using a socket wrench, unscrew the securing bolt of the tensioner pulley and remove the water pump. Fit the new water pump, the tensioner, and the belt, tightening everything with the socket wrench. Finally, refit the radiator with the securing bolts.
