Is the key battery flat? Here’s how to change it in the remote of a VW Passat. Take your ignition key and press the release button on the key fob. Once the key fob is open, use a screwdriver to pry between the two plastic halves until they separate.

Remove the rear cover. Extract the flat battery.

Replace the flat battery with a new one. Reassemble the two parts of the key fob cover until you hear the locking click. Check the functionality of the Passat key fob.
