Replacing Automatic Gearbox Oil

Model: Volkswagen Golf MK 5, Golf 5, Golf V - Years 2003-2008

This maintenance operation should ideally be carried out by qualified personnel equipped with the appropriate equipment for washing the automatic gearbox, ensuring that all the old oil is expelled from the transmission. It is also advisable to add a specific washing additive to the gearbox before replacing the oil: add the additive and run the engine for a while. Then, remove the battery and its support, unscrew the filter cap of the gearbox, and extract the filter. Connect the hoses of the equipment that will automatically insert the new oil while completely eliminating the old; also add the additive and finally replace the filter and the corresponding O-ring of the cap. Check the level from the breather plug located under the gearbox. Take the vehicle for a drive. You will notice a smoother engagement of the gears. Check the oil level again when hot.
