Volkswagen Polo - Video tutorial

Model: Volkswagen Polo Polo 4, MK 4, Polo IV, 9N, MK IV - Years 2001-2009
Part: Drums and shoes
Operation: How to replace the rear brake shoes of a Volkswagen Polo

Before we can start, we will have to go and lift the rear of our Volkswagen Golf. Let's start then by removing the rear wheel, unscrewing the relative fixing bolts. After that, we will have to unscrew and remove the screws that secure the drum to the hub, and then remove the drum itself. By doing so, we will have reached the rear brake shoes. We then proceed by going to release the springs connected to the jaws. At this point, we will have to disassemble and remove the brake cylinder by unscrewing the rear bolt. When we have completed this step, we will have to extract the shoes from their seat, and then disconnect the handbrake cable, and we will have completed the disassembly. To mount the new shoes and reassemble everything, we will have to follow these steps in reverse, and we will have completed the replacement.

Handbrake adjustment on Ford Ecosport

First remove the plastic profile at the base of the gear lever. To do this, slightly widen the side edges and carefully lift it to release it. There is no need to remove it completely, just move it forward to avoid bother. Now remove the plastic center console around the handbrake by first working from the rear to release it and lifting it until the brake lever passes. Also in this case it is not necessary to remove it completely but, paying attention to the connected cables, it can be stowed in front of the passenger seat. At this point we notice that at the base of the handbrake lever, on the front, we find a nut. By acting on it, with a 10 wrench, we can adjust the brake force, increasing it by turning the nut clockwise, or decreasing it by turning it counterclockwise. Once adjusted, the center console can be repositioned first, pressing lightly to engage it, and then the profile of the gearbox base.
