Replacement of Engine Cooling Radiator

Model: Volkswagen Jetta - Years 1979-1991

Obtain a replacement radiator. Remove the air filter and the intake duct protected by the cover. Remove the two side screws from the fan support, disconnect the electrical connector, and using the two special keys, loosen the retaining nut to allow removal. Place a tray under the radiator to collect the coolant. Unscrew the hose clamps on the water inlet to the radiator and remove it. Also disconnect all return hoses. Unclip the retaining springs at the bottom of the expansion tank and remove it from its housing. Remove the pump by disconnecting the electrical connector and unscrewing the two screws. Unscrew the radiator retaining screws and remove it by pulling upwards. Clean the radiator compartment of dirt. Install the new radiator, the expansion tank, the pump, and reconnect all hoses. Refit the fan and the air filter. Top up with the appropriate coolant. Start the engine, open the air bleed valve until fluid exits to eliminate any air bubbles, and check for any leaks.
