This guide shows how to repair the rear lock of the Volkswagen Golf 5. The procedure requires a good understanding of the electronic system of the lock. First, check if the wiring harness visible in the gap of the open door is damaged; if not, proceed as follows. Use a lever to remove the plastic trim from the door. At this point, you can remove the adhesive from the lock hole and, with the handle pulled, unscrew the screw in the open hole. Now you can remove the lock cylinder. You must dismantle the handle before you can remove the lock assembly. Unscrew all the Torx screws present; at this point, you can remove the outer metal panel of the door. Remove the plastic lever and unscrew the two screws of the lock located on the side of the door. Now you can disconnect the electrical connector of the lock, the protective casing, and the actuator cable. To work on the lock, you need to unscrew all the screws around the lock and remove the spring present. After unscrewing a few more screws, you can separate the two plastic halves of the lock. At this point, with the circuit board exposed, check the micro switches of the lock. Check the two electric motors to see if they respond when activated. Check the window lifter motor, as it acts as a junction box for the cables entering the door. It is very likely that the fault lies in the circuit board of the motor, which needs to be replaced.
