Before you can start, open the door of your Volkswagen Passat. Begin by unclipping and removing the insert of the door handle panel, using a thin but sturdy tool to lever it out. Next, unscrew and remove the screws securing the door panel.

At this point, unclip and remove the door panel. Once you have moved the panel away from the door, disconnect the electrical connector for the window switches and the handle cable, and the disassembly will be complete.
