How to Change the Instrument Cluster on a Volkswagen Golf V

Model: Volkswagen Golf MK 5, Golf 5, Golf V - Years 2003-2008

This guide shows how to replace the instrument cluster of the car. If the steering wheel has already been removed, simply lift the plastic cover above the steering column termination and follow the next steps. If the steering wheel is still attached, lower the plastic piece under the instrument cluster until the two screws securing the dashboard come into view. Using a screwdriver, undo these screws and keep them safe. Now, carefully pull the instrument assembly towards you. Once done, insert the new instrument cluster into the housing and reverse the previous steps. The tools required for this procedure are: Flathead screwdriver (if the steering wheel is not present); Torx screwdriver No. 20.
