Removing and/or Replacing the Car Radio

Model: Volkswagen Golf MK 5, Golf 5, Golf V - Years 2003-2008

To remove the car radio, first take out the rubber mat from the glove compartment above the air vents in the centre of the dashboard. Depending on the model, there may also be an airbag under the glove compartment. Unscrew the two screws and, using a flat tool, lift and remove the actual glove compartment. Be careful to retrieve the clips and reattach them to the glove compartment. Using a steel blade, insert it into the top slot of the radio and start to unclip the upper trim of the dashboard. Unclip it around the glove compartment area. Once the trim is removed, unclip the hazard light switch and, if there is an airbag, disconnect the light but reconnect it immediately to the wires, as leaving it disconnected will cause a warning light on the dashboard, requiring a reset. Now unscrew the two screws above the radio and unclip the lower part of the trim. At this point, unscrew the four screws on both sides of the radio. You can now pull out the radio. Disconnect the connections, being particularly careful with the type of connection for the antenna (if it is a double wire as shown in the video) to avoid damaging the cable near the connector. For the other connector, press from underneath to unlock and then lift the connector. Car model: VW Golf Year: 2004
