Instructions for Removing the Roof Lining

Model: Volkswagen Golf Golf IV, MK 4, Golf 4 - Years 1997-2003

To remove the roof lining, also known as the headlining, you need to detach the support handles located at each door (lower the handle, open the protective caps over the fixing screws, and unscrew them), the sun visors (lower the visor, unscrew the fixing screw, and disconnect the courtesy light connector before removing the other support); then move on to the interior light unit (remove the transparent cover, unscrew the underlying screws, and extract the light unit by pressing in the side fixing tabs); next, pull off the seals from the door pillars to release the plastic coverings of the pillars (windscreen, doors, and rear boot). At this point, you can lower and remove the headlining through the rear boot.
