Steering Rack Tie Rod End Replacement

Model: Volkswagen Passat 3BG, B5 - Years 1996-2005

To replace the spherical tie rod end of the steering rack, lift the vehicle on a hydraulic lift and remove the front wheel; then remove the fixing pin of the tie rod end from the hub support using a punch, followed by unscrewing the nuts of the spherical joint itself; loosen the lock nut located behind the tie rod end and unscrew it from the axial joint of the steering rack, counting the number of turns; then screw in the new tie rod end the same number of turns, secure it to the hub support and tighten the lock nut. After installation, it is advisable to have the wheel alignment checked.
