This guide provides instructions on how to activate and deactivate the alarm system, if equipped, on the Volkswagen Passat. First, take your remote control and press the lock button for a couple of seconds; this will close all the locks, thereby activating the alarm system.

When you open the vehicle, the alarm system will automatically disable; if you open it with a physical key (from the lock cylinder), the alarm system will not be disabled, as it only deactivates with the remote.
