The service light illuminates on a Volkswagen Golf model 4 when a service is due. The service includes topping up fluids and replacing filters, as well as checking the engine and timing belt. After this, the light needs to be reset.

To reset the light, do the following: - Keep the instrument cluster off; - Press the button to the right of the cluster; - Hold the button until the light resets; Then turn on the instrument cluster to confirm the reset.
