How do you replace the water pump of the Volkswagen Tiguan 2.0 TDi?

In order to replace the water pump of the Volkswagen Tiguan 2.0 TDi, you need to loosen the screws that secure the protective panel on the left side of the engine block: underneath it, you will find the timing belt around the respective pulleys. Once the central nut of the tension roller has been loosened, you can reduce the tension of the belt and also loosen the nut of the pump pulley: by removing this pulley, the underlying pump can be freed from its housing, replaced with a new spare part, and all the previously removed components can be reinstalled.
