This 1.6 TDI 105 HP engine is generally appreciated for its good performance and responsiveness, quietness, and low fuel consumption. However, it has a universally recognised defect concerning the injection system, particularly the high-pressure pump, which over time produces shavings and metallic debris inside. These particles travel through the injection system and block or damage the injectors, clog the particulate filter, and can damage the EGR valve. If your car has this problem, you may notice increased oil consumption, excessive exhaust smoke, loss of power, performance drops, and engine warning lights. Unfortunately, this is a very costly repair, as it involves replacing the pump and often the already damaged injectors, as well as cleaning or even replacing the DPF.
