The 1.0 TSI is a 3-cylinder turbo engine with a capacity of 999 cm³ designed for a range of compact vehicles from the V.A.G group, such as UP, Polo, T-Cross, T-Roc for Volkswagen; A1, Q2, A3 for Audi; Ibiza, Arona, Ateca, Leon for Seat; Fabia, Scala, Kamiq, Octavia, Karoq for Skoda. The oil-bath timing belt is its most critical point: it can suffer premature wear if the replacement intervals are not respected or if low-quality oil is used. Another issue is carbon build-up on the intake valves, a common problem for direct injection engines. The solution is to use high-quality fuel, special additives, and periodic decarbonisation. The turbocharger can be subject to premature wear if maintenance is neglected, or if driving is too aggressive. Some vibration issues are intrinsic to the 3-cylinder design: excessive vibrations may indicate engine mount wear.
