How do you remove the center tunnel of the Volkswagen Jetta?

In order to remove the central tunnel of the Volkswagen Jetta, you need to remove the ashtray located immediately below the central dashboard panel. Once this is removed, you can remove the cover surrounding the gear lever, taking it off completely along with the corresponding trim. At this point, the screws on the sides of the central tunnel can be loosened so that the cover is completely removed; now you can insert the new cover, along with all the other parts previously removed.
