Timing Belt Replacement

Model: Volvo S40 MK 1 - Years 1995-2004

This video demonstrates the replacement of the timing belt on a Volvo S40. After removing all components that obstruct access to the belt, loosen and remove the old one (after approximately 62,000 miles). The water pump, idler pulley, and tensioner are removed and replaced. Now fit the new timing belt, paying attention to the direction of the arrows on the belt in relation to the rotation direction. Follow this sequence for replacement: guide pulley, camshaft gear, injection pump gear, water pump tensioner. Insert the timing tool onto the crankshaft sprocket. Check that the timing marks on the camshaft sprocket are aligned and remember to check the belt tension.
